Chepstow
On Friday, 28 March, a few members of the Chepstow & District Rotary Club, accompanied by their wives, visited Undy Primary School to see the new log cabin, which was provided through the combined efforts of Rotary and the Friends of Undy Primary School (FOUPS).
We were warmly welcomed by Head Teacher Miss Cathy Edmunds, along with Emma Horton and Emma Williams, representatives of FOUPS. During our visit, we had the pleasure of meeting four Year 4 students, who shared their thoughts on the log cabin. They particularly appreciated having such a quiet and peaceful space to use. A Year teacher Miss Kimber also joined us, adding further insight into how the cabin benefits the school.
The morning truly highlighted the purpose of Rotary—supporting the community and making a difference. After the visit, we adjourned to The Wheatsheaf in Magor for lunch, where Miss Cathy Edmunds joined us.
It was a fantastic day that perfectly showcased Rotary at its best!

On 16 March 2025, members of Chepstow & District Rotary Club gathered for their much-anticipated Annual Safari Lunch, a cherished tradition that brings Rotarians together in a spirit of fellowship, fun, and fantastic food.
The event saw members and guests travelling between different homes, enjoying a delicious multi-course dining experience in a unique and sociable format. The afternoon began with fabulous main courses hosted at various homes, where lively conversation and laughter filled the air. After savouring these wonderful meals, participants moved on to different locations for an inspiring selection of superb desserts, each more tempting than the last.

Rotary Club of Chepstow & District Supporting Inclusive History Education
Helping to Bring History to Life for Home-Educated Children
Earlier this year, the Rotary Club of Chepstow & District was approached by a local Home Education group seeking support to provide enriching educational opportunities for children—particularly those with learning difficulties or other challenges that can limit access to traditional learning environments.
The club made a generous donation which enabled the Home ed Group to fund a series of history-themed workshops at Caldicot Castle, offering hands-on, inclusive learning experiences to families across South Monmouthshire.
🕰 Tudor History Workshop – 12 March 2025
The first session, held on 12 March, focused on the Tudor period and welcomed 30 children aged 4–14, plus younger siblings who joined in age-appropriate activities. Families travelled from Chepstow, Caldicot, Monmouth, Newport, and the Wye Valley to take part.
Led by Karin from the museum’s education team, the workshop included Tudor craft-making, historical dress-up, and even a traditional “horse” dance—an engaging and inclusive experience enjoyed by children of all abilities, including those with additional learning needs.
🎩 Victorian Workshop – 27 March 2025
The second session, held on 27 March, explored the Victorian era. Due to venue limitations, two smaller one-hour workshops were held for age-specific groups.
Children experienced a Victorian classroom setting (complete with slates and gender-separated lines), a traditional washday using period tools, and a creative decoupage box decorating activity. Each child proudly left with their handmade creations—and a greater appreciation for the past.
🙌 A Lasting Impact
These workshops have been met with enthusiastic feedback and heartfelt gratitude from participating families. Many expressed that opportunities like these are rare and deeply valued, especially when younger siblings and children with additional needs are welcomed and supported.
This initiative is a testament to the Rotary ideals of Service Above Self, demonstrating the power of community support and meaningful engagement. The Rotary Club of Chepstow & District is proud to have made these sessions possible and looks forward to supporting more in the coming months.
